The Spring Semester 2011 at Mount Saint Mary College has begun!!! I can't believe how fast the holiday season flew by. I am looking forward to getting back into the groove things! I am taking 3 courses this semester: Applied Research in Teaching Pupils with Mild Disabilities, Research in Literacy Teaching for Diverse Learners and Literacy and Technology.
Literacy and Technology is the first an online based course that I have taken. We had our first class meeting in person at MSMC, which was very helpful. I got to meet the members of my class and the group I will be teaming up with throughout the semester.
There are a lot of new technologies that I discovered just from this initial meeting such as, Wiziq and WDYDWYD. I am not familiar with either of the sites but I have fooled around with them over the past few days and can see they will be useful resources. My group members and I, "Team Techsavy," had our first virtual meeting using WizIq. For our first online meeting it went very smoothly. We spoke about our team motto and chatted about general questions about the course. We can up with the following slogan: "Our goal is to use technology to enhance education for all students, as well, promote collaboration among education professionals." I would recommend WizIq as a great way to connect to educators when distance or time is an issue. I have posted the link below.
The picture that I posted above is what I created on WDYDWYD, which stands for, " Why do you do what you do." I found this assignment to be very insightful and renewing. It made me really reflect on why I want to become a teacher. Here is what I came up with: I do what I do
because I believe that by teaching you have the great responsibility and power
to change lives. A teacher touches the lives of every student that enters
his or her classroom and must make sure they are creating the best learning
environment possible. A great teacher must stay aware, keep up with
current technology, never stop trying to inspire students and always remain
passionate about their job. I I would recommend that any teacher, student or anyone interested in connecting with other educators create a profile on WDYDWY. You can follow other teachers and discover useful articles, tips and resources. Go to the site and check it out: www.wdydwyd.com
I am exciting about this semester and can tell I am going to be discovering many new technological resources.
